Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of mid and northern NSW and south east QLD who are battling the current bush fire crisis.
We have many hand therapy friends and colleagues in these regions, and pray you are all safe and stay out of harms way.
Thankyou to the incredibly brave firefighters and volunteers that work tirelessly around the clock to battle these unprecedented fires.
Stay safe everyone! 🙏🏻😓

Recently we have been trialling a dynamic long wrist and thumb spica wrist hinge splint (what a mouthful 🙊!) for conservative management of de Quervain’s tenosynovitis (thanks to a hot tip from esteemed hand therapy colleague, @carlabingham88🙌🏻). The splint design allows for true wrist extension and flexion, while preventing (or significantly limiting) painful wrist deviation.
We have used this design, in conjunction with a static long wrist and thumb splint (for sleep and more ‘at-risk’ tasks), as well as a program of eccentric load exercises with some great success! 😃
Patients have been loving the option for safe, and pain free wrist range during the day - increasing functional use of the limb, and splint wear compliance 👍🏻 We have a feeling our new mums with deQ will also love it. ... See MoreSee Less

✨FUN FACT FRIDAY✨
A paediatric knee ROM brace makes for a great adult elbow hinge brace!
Easily adjustable, double hinge (providing excellent lateral stability), with adjustable ROM parameters.
This one here is used post elbow medial collateral ligament repair, and will be worn for 6 weeks.

⚡️SCAR MOBILISATION ⚡️
We love a good scar mobilisation hack, and this one is a great one..
1️⃣ Cut desired length of k-tape, expose adhesive side and pinch it together in the middle,
2️⃣ Apply with a gentle stretch on the tape, ensuring no tension at each end,
3️⃣ Ask your patient to periodically pull/twist/tug at the tab throughout the day to mobilise the scar and gently tease at the scar adhesions.
The tape can be left on for 3-4 days at a time (pending no skin irritation is occurring). Easy peasy!
Disclaimer: we ‘stole’ this hack from another insta page, but can’t remember where from!! 🙈😬 So if you’re the creator of this clever little hack and want the credit for it, please DM us and we’ll tag you 😀 ... See MoreSee Less
